'It's Always Sunny' Star Rob McElhenney Shares How He Got Ripped And It's Not Exactly Promising
It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia is one of the most consistently entertaining and longest-running live action sitcoms in TV history.
The show centers on the lives of five morally abhorrent people who behave absolutely appallingly throughout the seasons. They're a hateful bunch who insist on cheating, lying, and stealing. From filing false police reports to threatening people at gunpoint - they are truly despicable, and that's why people love it.
And it's this indifference to morality featured in the show that has led fans to draw similarities between it and the likes of hit sitcom Seinfeld.
As you'll most likely know if you watch the show, Rob McElhenney is the creator, star, and writer of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia.
And if you've been watching season 13, you'll know that McElhenney recently debuted a brand new look. And no, I don't mean he's back to being on the larger side. In actual fact, he's absolutely ripped. Now that's pretty impressive in itself, but even more so considering he used to look like this:
Also referred to as "Fat Mac", McElhenney's character continuously gained weight as the series went on.

So how exactly did McElhenney manage to go from "Fat Mac" to "Ripped Mac" in seemingly no time at all? Well, if you're currently embarking on your own fitness journey, try not to be too discouraged by the way in which McElhenney describes going about his own transition.
“Look, it’s not that hard,” the actor wrote in an Instagram post. “All you need to do is lift weights six days a week, stop drinking alcohol, don’t eat anything after 7 p.m., don’t eat any carbs or sugar at all, in fact just don’t eat anything you like, get the personal trainer from Magic Mike, sleep nine hours a night, run three miles a day, and have a studio pay for the whole thing over a six to seven month span. I don’t know why everyone’s not doing this. It’s a super realistic lifestyle and an appropriate body image to compare oneself to. #hollywood.”
So essentially, according to McElhenney and his very sarcastic advice, achieving such an epic transformation is a huge pain and something you have to dedicate a lot of your time and energy to. He also makes a very good point about his particular transformation not being attainable to the average person considering the studio funded it entirely.

You basically have to completely give up the foods you love all for the pursuit of a muscular body. I mean, if you're all for ditching the booze, carbs, and sugar, then at least the diet aspect of his transformation is achievable for you.
But you certainly don't get bulging biceps and washboard abs by munching on salad leaves every day. You have to work seriously hard for the bod of your dreams. Or as McElhenney puts it, get the same personal trainer used for Magic Mike.
He makes it pretty clear with his closing line that he believes it to be an unrealistic way to transform your physique: "I don't know why everyone's not doing this. It's a super realistic lifestyle and an appropriate body image to compare oneself to."
Transforming from a guy with a bit of a belly to a guy who can legitimately call himself the owner of a six pack was never going to be a walk in the park. So it's best not to discourage yourself by comparing your body to those who have the time and means to "perfect" their physique.
