This Is The World’s Most Handsome Man, According To Science
The world's most handsome man has been named this week, and I'm not going to lie, the result won't surprise you in the slightest. The big reveal comes after a list of famous men had their looks put to the test through facial mapping technologies by Harley Street Surgeon, Dr. Julian De Silva.
The technology looks at and measures the eyebrows, nose, lips, chin, jaw and facial structure of a man and compares it with the Greek idea of perfection. Included in the list were the likes of David Beckham, Harry Styles, Bradley Cooper and Brad Pitt... so everyone you would expect, really.
Dr. De Silva claims that, “These brand new computer mapping techniques allows us to solve some of the mysteries of what it is that makes someone physically beautiful” and that they use "the Golden Ratio" to work out who is the most handsome of them all. The Golden Ratio was a mathematical equation that was devised to be the Greeks attempt to measure the amount of beauty that a person possesses.
The ratio can be applied to anything, and was famously used by Leonardo da Vinci for the perfect human male body in his famous "Vitruvian Man", however this is the first time we've seen it used on contemporary celebrities.
This woman kicked off an online campaign to find the handsome stranger she kissed on the Eiffel Tower:
The premise behind the theory is that the closer the ratios of a face or body are to the number 1.618, they more beautiful they are, and this is known as the Phi ratio. Using the ratio on the 12 keys markers over the face, including the lips, nose, eyes and chin, the below list features the top scoring men on the Phi scale.
1. George Clooney 91.86 percent
2. Bradley Cooper 91.80 percent
3. Brad Pitt 90.51 percent
4. Harry Styles 89.63 percent
5. David Beckham 88.96 percent
6. Will Smith 88.88 percent
7. Idris Elba 87.93 percent
8. Ryan Gosling 87.48 percent
9. Zayn Malik 86.5 percent
10. Jamie Foxx 85.46 percent
Yep, unsurprisingly, George Clooney tops the list. We've heard about how much of a looker Clooney is for many years, but now it has been confirmed by science (and we all know you can't argue with science, right?). Speaking about the discovery, Dr. De Silva, who runs the Centre for Advanced Facial Cosmetic And Plastic Surgery in London, UK, said:
"George Clooney has been feted as the world’s most beautiful man for decades — and it is great that his status has now been proved by science.
He has beautiful facial symmetry and gets closer than any other man to having what the Greeks considered the perfect face.
George had a near-perfect ratio of nose-to-lip dimension of 99.6 per cent, and his chin and eye spacing were almost perfect as well."
Sounds like they fancy him a bit, to be honest. Dr. De Silva goes on to say that "across the 12 key markers, he [George Clooney] had the highest combined score" and thus, he is officially the most handsome man in the world. Not bad for a 56-year-old, eh?
So it's all good for George Clooney, although, when is it ever not?
