Deep Sea Worm Filmed "Screaming" By Russian Trawlerman

Most of us have grown up listening to the cliché "never judge a book by its cover", but, at the end of the day, we are all human and even with the best intentions in the world, there are some things in life which we can't help but judge by their covers. Insects and arachnids, for example, while mostly harmless, have a tendency to frighten us with their spindly limbs and bizarre eyes.

And given the fact that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has estimated that a whopping 99% of the ocean floor is unexplored, it's inevitable that, for the foreseeable future, we are going to get spooked by the Earth's underwater creepy crawlies. Case in point, this video of a SCREAMING worm that was posted on Twitter.

To hear this Russian trawlerman's shocking find 'scream' for yourself, check out the video below:

Admittedly, Roman Fedortsov is no stranger to seeing sights that most of us couldn't imagine even in our darkest nightmares, and alongside the video, he wrote, "Sometimes in the trawl I find [things like this]. If this creature could scream, it would scream like this …" he added, before adding in the fake scream which makes this clip a 100 times creepier.

And while this worm looks like something straight out of a horror movie, to those in the know, it's a fairly common creepy crawly. Namely, a marine bristle worm, which can be seen opening and closing its mouth while retracting its head.

Incredibly, there are more than 10,000 species of this particular worm and they inhabit all corners of the ocean - from the icy waters of the Arctic to warm hydrothermal vents.

However, if you think the worm is creepy, you've seen nothing yet:

Naturally, the post attracted a lot of attention, inside and outside of Russia.

Twitter user @TjRodo claimed that the worm's existence was foretold, like many other things, by The Simpsons, writing, "The simpsons predicted it again [sic]."

Whereas @kevinfiber069 speculated about what the worm's scream might mean, writing, "Sad or his war scream cuz im pretty that thing can take over the world [sic]."

Not everyone was horrified by the worm, however, and @INFemaleJ remarked, "It's kind of cute."

By now, you're probably wondering what happened to the worm in the video above, and I'm afraid to say that we don't know.

However, despite its fearsome appearance, we can only hope the worm was popped back into the ocean and allowed to live out the rest of its life in relative peace... Otherwise, it'll certainly be screaming again if it gets picked up by another trawlerman!

But not all things brought up from the depths are freaky, some are just completely unexpected.

Case in point, what these trawlermen found among their huge fish haul:

One thing's for sure - if you don't think you can handle freaking-looking marine life, becoming a trawlerman definitely isn't the career for you!
